The painting of Dirk Norwitzki reflects the effortless glide on his lay-up to the basket. I painted Dirk seemingly floating through the air with a frenetic background of brush strokes to suggest the fans cheering their applause. His long 7 ft. frame is fully extended at the height of his ascent to capture this breakaway score at the pivotal moment.

Dirk was recruited directly out of high school in Germany by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1998 NBA draft. Each year Dirk worked hard to improve his game until becoming the league MVP in 2007. In many ways, Dirk opened the floodgates for international players possessing sound fundamentals and shooting ability to be drafted into the NBA. He has redefined the forward position with an ability to hit the three point shot, shoot a falling fade-away jump shot or take the ball hard to the basket. To date, he has made seven All-Star appearances, won the three-point shooting competition in 2006 and has averaged 22 points per game during the regular seasons. He continues to attract international attention and will no doubt end his career with the great stats and, hopefully, NBA Championships.
