Racing the slalom course tests a skier’s skill on many levels where the margin for error is very small. In this painting, I wanted to capture the skill, speed and split second decision-making needed to avoid disaster. The lean of the skier and the bend of the gate pole accentuate the action. The skier is painted in quick heavy brushstrokes visualizing the impression of movement at the expense of detail.
